T.T.B.O.O.M.

Take the Breath Out of Me revolves around the acute collapse and final conquest of Miki Johnson, a Japanese ‘refuge’ and self-professed “Street-Prize” who gets caught up in a seemingly unknown battle between substance abuse, the assumed death of her first real love, and the disease controlling organization behind all of it. When she learns the truth, she’s faced with a choice that will be one of life and death, for her, and thousands of others facing the same debilitating illness.

This is my second novel, but it is the first I have submitted for publishing. Despite my age of sixteen, I have spent countless hours counseling with people who have faced real-life situations where the choice between selfishness and martyrdom must be made, as in Take the Breath Out of Me. Miki’s story dictates one of triumph over personal demons and forces beyond her control.

Feedback ~

These are character descriptions from Eric L., 17, the first third party to read the full text of TAKE THE BREATH OUT OF ME.

Miki I would say is (obviously) the most complex character out of the three. I love how she reveals a part of her past that she'd never shared with Drake. She's smarter than she thinks she is, I love the whole part about the tattoo, and how it ties into her and Drake's relationship. She is like a puzzle with one piece missing, and that piece is Drake.

Drake. He's like Jesus in a way, coming to save Miki when she needs him most. Miki becomes a picture of what we look like when we forsake God when Drake was taken. He's a nice guy, but I found it was sometimes hard to see where his personality ended and where Strain A took over. He's strong, smart, no obvious character flaws. Me personally, I like him the best. He's a hero, plain and simple.

Harlow I would describe as being well intentioned, although he is more ofa 'end result outweighs the means' type of guy. I felt like there was some connection between him and 001. Someone from his past maybe? He seemed troubled somewhat.
